What was wrong with these? My mom’s uncle, who died in 2016, had one.

Wow, didn’ t even know they made those with a third pedal. I wonder what percentage were sold that way, certainly in the low single digits, 1-2%??

Hot take: this and the Status coupe were not terrible looking.

If even that.

Engine and transmission issues galore

It’s a third gen Mitsubishi Eclipse without the completely heinous styling!

They weren’t. It was everything else about them that was terrible.

Send it my way this gen Sebring is on the top of my list of cars I would absolutely ruin with pavement scraping, fender banging stance.

It’s just rebadged Eclipse right down to the engine/transmission offerings . That being said, I can’t imagine typical Chrysler buyers bought more than a handful with the manual.

They’re rebadged 3rd generation Mitsubishi Eclipses including the timing-belt driven interference engines. A lot of owners didn’t pay attention to the belt change intervals and blew up the engines. Nothing really inherently wrong with them but they required a fair amount of maintenance and were typically owned by people that ignored it.

Fancy E clipse you got there, brah.

I like the rear end of the Stratus.
![]() 10/20/2018 at 17:52 |

I had the clueless mindset that these would be more reliable than the normal Sebrings because they were Mitsubishis, not Chrysler products.

I agree. I also liked the look of its predecessor, the Avenger coupe:

And it’s a better NASCAR look a like than the last Monte

Harlan and I came back afterwards to yoink the aux gauges off the Mini and look for Ranger parts. I stopped to find that car. When you said Sebring, I was thinking of the 2010s POS...not this. This is cooler.

I found one for sale. One. https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?atCarId=1d253dfe&fbclid=IwAR0fT3WtmHzf1VFpwhHN5izqPScs4Lk_WwBFlK9Pyf1RVavw5EDHDAIA4p4

Yup, timing belts... except for the ones with timing chains. Somebody had the bright idea of using these chains to drive the water pump, too. Because why would you ever want the water pump to be accessible?

Not cool enough to replace the Miata but kudos to whoever ordered that Sebring when new with a drop-top and manual.

Only the stripper trim with 2.4 EDZ. Less than 1%.
Unicorn status is 2.4 4G64/5spd coupe or 2.4 EDZ/5spd convertible.
